it was desperately needed sun therapy--intensely applied

It seemed a sacrilege to spray paint starfish and conch shells gold and silver. The beaches have no shells, nor pieces of shells on them.

This particular day found us sans sunscreen. The oils in sun lotions of all kinds are injurious to the barrier reef we snorkeled on later, and to the fish near the beach. The fact that our sun screen was not oil-based did not grant us permission to put it on. It was on this day I burned my back while snorkeling, and my scalp as well. Stephen had the great good sense to snorkel with his shirt on.
